Reverse Words flips the order of words while leaving the letters inside each word alone. In per-line mode every line is reversed independently, so a list stays a list and a paragraph keeps its line structure; in whole-text mode every word in the document is treated as one stream and the result becomes a single paragraph. The page is precise about what that means for spacing. Words are identified as runs of non-whitespace separated by whitespace, so multiple spaces, tabs and mixed indentation collapse to one space between the reversed words, and existing line breaks are not preserved in whole-text mode. Punctuation stays attached to the word it followed, which is why a reversed sentence ends with the punctuation of its original first word rather than gaining a new full stop. No re-capitalisation is attempted and no words are changed. It is useful for checking word-order sensitivity in a translation or search tokenizer, creating backwards text for a puzzle, or demonstrating how much meaning survives when syntax is flipped. A tokenizer that treats punctuation as part of a token produces a different reversal from one that strips it first, so compare both before relying on the result for a search or translation check. Because the operation is deterministic, applying it twice restores the original word order whenever spacing was already single. Line order itself never changes in per-line mode; only the words inside each line move. Hyphenated compounds stay joined as a single token, so reversing does not split them; a word broken across a line break is treated as two tokens because the line break is whitespace.

How to use Reverse Words

  1. Paste the text and choose per-line or whole-text mode.
  2. Read the reversed preview and the word count.
  3. Copy the result or clear to start over.

What you get

  • The words in reverse order, either line by line or as one paragraph.
  • A count of reversed words and, in per-line mode, the number of lines.
  • Spacing normalised to single spaces between words, with letters untouched.

When to use Reverse Words

  • Check whether a search or translation pipeline depends on word order.
  • Create backwards word-order text for a puzzle or a word game.
  • Reverse each line of a list while keeping one item per line.

Frequently asked questions about Reverse Words

Are the letters inside each word reversed too?

No. This tool only changes word order. Use Reverse Letters if you need the characters inside each word flipped.

Why did my line breaks disappear?

Whole-text mode treats the document as one stream of words. Switch to per-line mode to keep the original line structure.

Why do multiple spaces become one?

Words are separated by runs of whitespace, and the output joins them with a single space. Original alignment is therefore not preserved.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Reversal runs in your browser; nothing is sent to a server or stored after the page closes.
