JSON Tree Viewer

Browse JSON as a collapsible tree with search and path copy.

Browser onlyYour data never leaves this device.

Parsing, walking, and searching all run in your browser, in a background worker when available. The document never leaves the device.

Drag and drop works here too.

One JSON file up to 20 MB.

Parsed, never evaluated: the text becomes data through JSON.parse alone — no functions, no prototypes walked as code. Deep nesting and huge documents collapse with explicit markers instead of freezing the tab.

Choose a JSON file to browse it as a collapsible tree.

JSON Tree Viewer opens a document as a collapsible tree you can navigate, rather than a wall of text you scroll through. Branches expand and collapse, a search covers both keys and values, any node's path can be copied, and a jump box accepts a path in the $.store.book[0].title grammar. Those four actions cover what people actually do with an unfamiliar payload: find where a field lives, confirm its surroundings, and hand the location to someone else. The page is honest about its ceilings. Parsing is JSON.parse and nothing else, so nothing is evaluated; nesting past fifty levels or nodes past one hundred thousand collapse behind explicit markers; an expanded level renders up to a thousand children; search stops at five hundred results. One file per view, up to twenty megabytes. It is the tool for finding a field in an API response, for inspecting a large config branch by branch, and for verifying that a generated document still has the shape a pipeline expects.

How to use JSON Tree Viewer

  1. Drop one JSON file.
  2. Expand branches, search, or jump to a path.
  3. Copy the paths you need.

What you get

  • A collapsible tree with search over keys and values, capped at 500 results.
  • Copyable paths in the $.store.book[0].title grammar, plus a jump box that accepts one.
  • Explicit markers where nesting passes 50 levels or nodes pass 100,000, instead of a frozen tab.

When to use JSON Tree Viewer

  • Find where an API response nests the field you need, then copy its path.
  • Inspect a large config file branch by branch without an editor.
  • Verify a generated document's shape after a pipeline change.
  • Hand a colleague the exact path to a field instead of a screenshot of the surrounding JSON.

Frequently asked questions about JSON Tree Viewer

Does JSON Tree Viewer execute anything in my file?

No. The text goes through JSON.parse alone — data becomes data. There is no eval, no functions, no prototype tricks.

What happens with very deep or huge documents?

Nesting past 50 levels and nodes past 100,000 collapse into labelled markers, and levels render 1,000 children at a time. Search and the navigator still reach everything parsed.

How do paths work?

Every node shows its path like $.store.book[0].title: dot-separated keys from the root, brackets for array indices. Copy buttons take the exact string.

Is anything uploaded?

Nothing. Parsing, walking, and searching run in your browser — parsing in a background worker when one is available.
