JSON to CSV

Flatten a JSON array of objects into spreadsheet-ready CSV.

Details: Privacy policy

Input

Array of objects. Nested values become JSON text.

Safe output prefixes cells starting with =, +, -, or @ with a quote so spreadsheets treat them as text instead of formulas.

Result

No input yet.

Paste a JSON array above.

JSON to CSV flattens an array of objects into comma-separated rows with a header, so a response that only developers can read becomes a sheet anyone can review. The mapping is documented rather than mysterious: the header is the union of keys across all objects, an object that omits a key gets an empty cell, and an extra key extends the columns instead of being dropped. Nested objects are written as JSON text inside the cell, which keeps them intact rather than flattening them into invented column names. Formula-like cells are guarded by default, because a value beginning with an equals sign would otherwise be executed when the file opens in a spreadsheet; safe output can be switched off when raw text is genuinely wanted. The top level must be an array of objects - a bare object or a primitive is rejected rather than wrapped in a guess. It is the tool for turning API responses into something a colleague can sort, for preparing seed data for an import, and for noticing which keys a service leaves out. Because the header is the union of keys, one object carrying an unusual field adds a column for every row rather than a stray value, and the guard flags a leading equals sign.

How to use JSON to CSV

  1. Paste a JSON array and pick a delimiter.
  2. Keep safe output on unless you need raw formulas.
  3. Copy, download, or clear to start over.

What you get

  • A header row built from the union of keys, with empty cells where an object omits one.
  • Nested objects written as JSON text inside the cell, so nothing is silently flattened.
  • Formula-like cells guarded by default, with safe output switchable off when raw text is wanted.

When to use JSON to CSV

  • Turn API responses into a sheet for non-technical review.
  • Prepare seed data for spreadsheet import.
  • Check which keys an API response omits, since a missing key becomes an empty cell rather than an error.

Frequently asked questions about JSON to CSV

Does JSON to CSV upload my data?

No. Parsing and conversion run locally in your browser; nothing is sent, stored, or logged.

What happens to nested objects?

They are stored as compact JSON text in the cell. The tool never invents extra columns for them.

What does safe output change?

Cells starting with =, +, -, or @ gain a leading single quote, so Excel and Sheets treat them as text rather than formulas.

Why are some cells empty?

Objects missing a column present elsewhere get an empty cell. Columns are the union of all keys.
