Tip Calculator splits a restaurant bill into the tip, the total and the share per person, with the tip percentage and the party size under your control. The arithmetic is trivial; the reason the page exists is that it is done in a hurry at the end of a meal, and a mistyped party size or a stray digit in the percentage produces a number everyone at the table accepts without checking. The tip is bounded to zero through one hundred percent and the party size to between one and a thousand whole people, so both mistakes are refused rather than charged. Per-person shares are shown for the whole party, which makes an uneven split visible: if one person had the steak, the average is the wrong number for them, and seeing it stated is what prompts the correction. The page does no rounding tricks and applies no service-charge convention, because those vary by country. Everything is computed locally from the figures you enter, and nothing is stored. Rounding applies to the total only, so a per-person share is a division rather than a separately rounded figure.

How to use Tip Calculator

  1. Enter the bill, tip percent, and number of people.
  2. Choose a rounding mode and a currency label.
  3. Read tip, total, and per-person shares, or copy the summary.

What you get

  • The tip amount, the total bill, and the share per person.
  • Per-person shares for between 1 and 1,000 people, with whole people only.
  • Tip percentages bounded to 0-100%, so a mistyped figure is refused rather than charged.

When to use Tip Calculator

  • Split a dinner bill three ways with a 15% tip and no mental math.
  • Preview what rounding the total up costs each person before paying.
  • Split a bill unevenly in practice by checking the per-person share against what each person ordered.

Frequently asked questions about Tip Calculator

How is rounding ordered across the calculation?

Tip first (half-up to cents), then total (bill plus tip), then the rounding mode on the total only, then per-person as total divided by people, half-up to cents.

What does round per-person up do?

It raises the total just enough that every share is a whole unit: total becomes ceiling of total divided by people, times people.

Does the currency choice convert anything?

No. The currency code only labels the display; all inputs are treated as same-unit amounts with no conversion.

Is this financial advice?

No. It is deterministic arithmetic on numbers you supply, for splitting bills only.
