Word Wrap breaks text into lines that fit a chosen character width, preserving whole words wherever it can. It is the plain-text equivalent of the wrap a text editor performs: a long paragraph becomes a stack of lines no wider than the limit, existing line breaks stay as hard breaks, and runs of spaces collapse so the result does not inherit ragged alignment from the source. The interesting case is a single word longer than the width - a URL, a chemical name, a long identifier - and the page makes that a choice rather than a surprise. Left alone, the word overflows on its own line, which keeps it intact and readable. With hard-breaking enabled, the word is split into fixed chunks, which keeps the width exact at the cost of breaking the token. The width is measured in code points, so a CJK character or emoji counts as one unit even if a terminal draws it wider. It is the tool for preparing text for a fixed-width field, wrapping a paragraph for email, and making a long single line readable without a proportional font. Indentation at the start of an input line is not preserved: the line is tokenised on whitespace, so a wrapped paragraph begins flush left unless you add the indent yourself. Because the algorithm is greedy, it never looks ahead to balance line lengths; a later shorter word cannot pull an earlier word down.

Does it break words automatically?
Only when you enable hard-breaking. Otherwise a word longer than the width sits on its own line and overflows, which keeps the token intact.
Are my existing line breaks kept?
Yes. Existing line breaks are treated as hard breaks; each input line is wrapped independently.
Why did double spaces disappear?
Words are separated by runs of whitespace and joined with a single space. The wrap does not preserve alignment spacing from the source.
Is my text uploaded?
No. Wrapping runs in your browser; nothing is sent to a server or stored.
