Password Encrypt/Decrypt

Encrypt text with a password in the browser, or decrypt a payload with the same password.

Browser onlyYour data never leaves this device.

Runs entirely in your browser. Your text never leaves this device and is never stored.

Details: Privacy policy

Input

Nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored.

At least 8 characters. The password is never stored.

Result

Nothing to show yet.

Choose encrypt or decrypt, paste the text, enter a password and run the operation.

Password Encrypt/Decrypt turns text into a self-contained encrypted payload using a password you choose, and turns that payload back into text with the same password. It uses AES-GCM with a 256-bit key derived by PBKDF2-SHA-256 at one hundred thousand iterations, and a fresh random salt and IV for every encryption; both are stored with the ciphertext so the payload can be decrypted later. The output is a short version marker followed by Base64, which makes it easy to paste into a note, an email or a configuration field. The page is blunt about the boundaries. There is no password recovery, the code has not been independently audited, and anyone who has both the payload and the password can read the text. Everything runs in the browser through WebCrypto; the password and plaintext are never sent anywhere. It is the tool for protecting a short secret in transit, storing a note that should not be readable at a glance, and demonstrating authenticated encryption without installing anything. The password is stretched with PBKDF2 rather than used directly, so a short human password costs an attacker more than a single hash. The authentication tag in AES-GCM also means a modified payload fails to decrypt instead of returning corrupted text. Every run produces a different payload because the salt and IV are random, even for the same text and password. Decryption never writes the password anywhere. The payload contains everything needed except the password.

How to use Password Encrypt/Decrypt

  1. Choose encrypt or decrypt.
  2. Paste the text or the payload and enter a password of at least 8 characters.
  3. Run the operation and copy the result.

What you get

  • A v1 payload containing salt, IV and AES-GCM ciphertext as Base64.
  • The decrypted text when the password and payload are valid.
  • A clear error for a wrong password, a bad payload or a short password.

When to use Password Encrypt/Decrypt

  • Encrypt a short secret before sending it through a chat.
  • Protect a note at rest with a password you keep separately.
  • Decrypt a v1 payload produced by this page.

Frequently asked questions about Password Encrypt/Decrypt

Can I recover the text if I forget the password?

No. There is no recovery path; the password is the only key.

Is this audited encryption?

It uses standard WebCrypto primitives but has not been independently audited. Treat it as a convenience, not a compliance tool.

What does the v1 prefix mean?

It marks the payload format: version 1, followed by Base64 of salt, IV and ciphertext.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Encryption and decryption run in your browser; nothing is sent to a server or stored.
