Text to Bytes converts a string into the UTF-8 bytes a computer actually stores, shown in hexadecimal or decimal with a space or comma between values. It is the measurement behind file sizes and encoding bugs: A is one byte, e-acute is two, and an emoji outside the basic plane is four, which is why a character count and a byte count disagree. The page reports the byte total alongside the values, so a surprising length can be checked immediately. Hexadecimal values are uppercase and padded to two digits, which keeps a byte list aligned; decimal values are plain numbers. The separator is yours to choose for pasting into code, a spreadsheet or a protocol document. Nothing is encrypted or obfuscated: the bytes are a direct UTF-8 encoding, and Bytes to Text reverses them. It is the tool for inspecting an encoding, preparing a byte array for a test fixture, and understanding why a limit measured in bytes cuts a string earlier than expected. The same character can occupy different byte counts in different encodings, so a byte total is only meaningful alongside the encoding that produced it. Here the encoding is fixed to UTF-8, which is what the web uses and what most APIs expect. Hexadecimal values are padded because a byte is two digits; a single-digit value would be ambiguous when the list is read back. The byte total is reported separately from the values, so a truncated paste is visible before it reaches a decoder.

How to use Text to Bytes

  1. Paste the text to encode.
  2. Choose hexadecimal or decimal and the separator.
  3. Copy the byte list or clear to start over.

What you get

  • The UTF-8 bytes in hexadecimal or decimal, separated as chosen.
  • The total byte count, which can exceed the character count.
  • Two-digit padded hex values or plain decimal values, as selected.

When to use Text to Bytes

  • Inspect the UTF-8 bytes of text before writing a test fixture.
  • See why a byte limit truncates a string earlier than a character limit.
  • Prepare a hexadecimal byte list for a protocol or a config file.

Frequently asked questions about Text to Bytes

Why does one character produce several bytes?

UTF-8 uses one byte for ASCII and more for other characters: two for many accented letters, three for CJK, four for emoji outside the basic plane.

Is this encryption?

No. It is a direct encoding; anyone can decode it. Use a cipher if confidentiality is required.

Can I get the text back?

Yes. Paste the values into Bytes to Text with the matching format.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Encoding runs in your browser; nothing is sent to a server or stored.
