Insert Text at Position adds a string at an exact point in a text without deleting anything. Positions are 1-based, so 1 means before the first character and a position equal to the length plus one means the end; anything outside that range is rejected rather than clamped, because a silent append hides a counting mistake. The count is in code points, which keeps emoji and CJK characters at one position each instead of splitting a surrogate pair. The page returns the resulting text and the position used, and it never overwrites: insertion shifts the rest of the text to the right. It is the tool for adding a prefix at a known offset, placing a marker inside a fixed-format record, and repairing a line where a character was dropped at a specific index. Everything runs locally, and the original text is never modified in place. Because the operation is positional, the inserted string is not escaped or interpreted; a backslash or a newline typed into the field is inserted literally, which is usually what a fixed-format record needs. Position counting includes spaces and punctuation, not just letters. If the text contains combining marks, a position can fall between a base character and its mark; the page counts code points, so a visually single glyph may have several positions. Clearing the result restores the original input. The insertion is a pure string operation and does not validate the result.

How to use Insert Text at Position

Frequently asked questions about Insert Text at Position

Is the position 0-based like an array index?

No. It is 1-based: position 1 inserts before the first character.

Can I insert at the very end?

Yes, with position equal to the length plus one. Larger values are rejected.

Does it replace the character at that position?

No. It inserts and shifts the rest; use Find and Replace to substitute.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Insertion runs in your browser; nothing is sent to a server or stored.
