Braille Translator converts letters and digits into Grade 1 Unicode braille characters, the six-dot cells that a screen reader or a braille display can render. It is a character-level mapping: a becomes a single cell, a capital letter gets a capital sign before it, and a digit gets a number sign. That makes the output explicit and easy to inspect, but it is not literary braille. Grade 1 has no contractions, so common words are spelled out cell by cell and the result is longer than the braille a press would produce. Punctuation is passed through rather than translated into its own cell, and spaces stay spaces. The page states these limits because a braille reader would notice them immediately. It is the tool for learning the mapping, producing a short label, and checking how a word is built from cells. It is not a substitute for a certified braille transcription of a document. Braille cells are positional: the same six dots are reused for different letters depending on the pattern, so a reader who knows the mapping can transcribe a label but not a page of literary braille. Unicode braille starts at U+2800 and encodes the six dots as a bit pattern, which is why these characters sort and copy as ordinary text. If a character has no braille mapping here, it is left as itself so the gap is visible rather than silently dropped. The cell order follows the source exactly, with no reordering for right-to-left scripts. A blank braille cell is a space, so an empty line in the output still marks a word boundary.
