Strip HTML Tags turns marked-up text back into readable copy by removing tag-shaped markup, and optionally the comments, scripts and styles that would otherwise leave code in the middle of a sentence. Tag removal keeps the text between tags and deletes the tags themselves, so a paragraph survives with its words in order rather than being flattened or reflowed. Comments disappear only when asked, because they are sometimes the notes you want to keep while debugging. Script and style blocks are a separate choice: removing just their tags would expose raw JavaScript and CSS to the reader, which is rarely what someone means by cleaning text. Entity decoding is the third switch, handling common named entities and decimal or hexadecimal references so an escaped ampersand becomes an ampersand again. The page does not pretend to be a parser. Malformed markup can survive, unclosed tags are not repaired, and unknown entities stay literal. It is the tool for turning an email template into plain copy, checking what a page says without its markup, and preparing pasted HTML for a field that accepts text only.

How to use Strip HTML Tags

  1. Paste the HTML or marked-up text.
  2. Choose whether to drop comments, scripts and styles, and decode entities.
  3. Copy the plain text or clear to start over.

What you get

  • The visible text with tag-shaped markup removed.
  • Counts of removed tags and decoded entities.
  • Unknown entities and malformed markup left untouched, as stated.

When to use Strip HTML Tags

  • Turn an email template into plain copy before editing the wording.
  • Remove comments and scripts from pasted markup while keeping the visible text.
  • Decode escaped entities so an ampersand reads as an ampersand again.

Frequently asked questions about Strip HTML Tags

Is this a full HTML parser?

No. It matches tag-shaped markup with regular expressions. Malformed or unclosed tags may survive, and the page says so instead of implying a browser-grade parse.

Why did script code appear in my output?

Removing the script tag alone leaves its contents. Enable the script and style option to drop the whole block rather than just its surrounding tags.

Which entities are decoded?

The common named entities plus decimal and hexadecimal numeric references. Unknown named entities are left exactly as written.

Is my markup uploaded?

No. Processing runs in your browser; nothing is sent to a server or stored.
