Input
Rows come from lines; cells come from the delimiter.
Result
No text yet.
Paste delimited text above to see it as columns.
Split Text turns a block of delimited text into rows and columns you can inspect, without opening a spreadsheet. Choose a delimiter - comma, semicolon, tab, pipe or any custom string - and each line becomes a row whose cells are the pieces between delimiters; the table shows exactly how many columns the widest row produces, which is the quickest way to spot a stray comma or a missing field. Newline mode does the opposite and keeps each line as a single-column row, useful when you want to see a list as a table before pasting it elsewhere. Splitting is deliberately literal rather than a full CSV parse: quote characters are not treated as protective, so a delimiter inside quoted text still splits, and the page says so instead of implying spreadsheet-grade parsing. Empty lines are skipped and counted, the result reports rows and columns, and a copy action produces a tab-separated version of every row. Caps are explicit: five thousand rows, one hundred columns, and an on-page preview of the first two hundred rows. Everything runs locally in your browser. Switching between delimiter and newline mode re-parses the same text rather than preserving the previous table. The table numbers columns from left to right and pads missing cells with blanks for display, while the copied TSV keeps each row's actual cell count.
How to use Split Text
- Paste the text and choose a delimiter or newline mode.
- Read the column table and the row and column counts.
- Copy the tab-separated result or clear to start over.
What you get
- A table of rows and cells with the delimiter applied literally.
- Row count, column count, and how many empty lines were skipped.
- A tab-separated copy of every row, including rows beyond the on-page preview.
When to use Split Text
- Inspect a pasted CSV to see whether every row really has the same columns.
- Split pipe-delimited log lines into readable columns.
- See a pasted list as a single-column table before reorganising it.
Frequently asked questions about Split Text
Does it handle quoted CSV fields?
No. Splitting is literal: a delimiter inside quotes still splits the cell. The page states this rather than pretending to be a full CSV parser.
Why are some blank lines missing from the table?
Empty lines are skipped and counted in the result instead of becoming empty rows, which keeps the column count meaningful.
Why does the table stop at 200 rows?
The preview is capped to keep the page responsive. The copy action still includes every row, up to the 5,000-row limit.
Is my text uploaded?
No. Splitting and the table preview run in your browser; nothing is sent to a server or stored.
