Type a headline above to slugify it.

Slug Generator turns a title into a URL slug, either in Unicode form or in an ASCII-safe form that survives older systems and pasted links. The difference matters: a Unicode slug keeps the original words legible, while the ASCII-safe mode transliterates or strips characters so the address can be typed and shared without encoding. Punctuation and spacing are removed rather than escaped, words are lowercased and joined by single hyphens, and the input is capped at two thousand characters per slug so an accidental paste of a whole document fails rather than producing a monstrous address. It is the step between writing a headline and publishing a page, and it exists because the two are rarely generated from the same place: a title edited in a CMS often leaves a slug behind, and a batch of translated titles needs a matching batch of slugs. Everything happens locally in the browser; nothing is sent anywhere.

How to use Slug Generator

  1. Paste a title and pick delimiter, case, and Unicode or ASCII mode.
  2. Read the resulting slug live.
  3. Copy the slug or clear to start over.

What you get

  • A URL slug in Unicode or ASCII-safe form, depending on the mode you pick.
  • The character cap applied before generation: 2,000 characters per slug.
  • Lowercased words joined by single hyphens, with punctuation and spacing removed rather than escaped.

When to use Slug Generator

  • Derive a permalink from an article headline before publishing.
  • Convert an Arabic or accented title into a safe ASCII fallback slug.
  • Generate matching slugs for a batch of translated page titles without breaking the URL pattern.

Frequently asked questions about Slug Generator

Does Slug Generator upload my text?

No. All slugification runs locally in your browser; nothing is sent, stored, or logged.

How is Arabic handled in each mode?

Unicode mode keeps Arabic letters as-is, joined by your delimiter. ASCII mode drops non-Latin scripts — it never invents a transliteration it cannot verify.

Why did accents become plain letters?

ASCII mode folds accented characters to their base letters (café becomes cafe) using Unicode decomposition. This is best-effort and documented, not universal.

What happens with emoji-only input?

Emoji carry no letters or digits, so ASCII mode yields an empty slug and says so plainly instead of faking one. Unicode mode behaves the same way.
