Check if Text is Palindrome answers a single yes-or-no question after normalising the input: keep letters and digits, lowercase them, drop spaces and punctuation, then compare the result with its reverse. That is why familiar phrases such as A man, a plan, a canal: Panama pass even though the raw characters differ at every end. The page shows the normalised string it actually compared, so a surprising verdict can be traced rather than argued with. Two boundaries are stated. The check is whole-text: it does not search for a hidden palindrome inside a longer sentence, which is what the separate finder does. And normalisation is deliberately narrow - accents are not folded, so a letter with a diacritic is not the same character as its base. Empty or punctuation-only input is reported as not a palindrome rather than as a vacuous yes. It is the tool for wordplay, a quick puzzle answer, and testing a string before using it as a demo of reversal. The normalised string is shown because the verdict alone hides the decision: a phrase can fail because of one accented letter or one digit, and the comparison makes that visible. The check is a character test, not a linguistic one. An empty normalised string is reported as not a palindrome, because a vacuous yes would be misleading in a test. The comparison is case-insensitive after normalisation, so Madam and madam reach the same verdict. A palindrome of even length pairs every character; an odd length has one unpaired centre.

Frequently asked questions about Check if Text is Palindrome

Does it ignore punctuation?

Yes. Only letters and digits are kept, and they are lowercased before the comparison.

Does it find palindromes inside a sentence?

No. It tests the whole text. Use Palindrome Finder in Text for word-level matches.

Why does an accented letter fail?

Normalisation does not fold diacritics, so é and e remain different characters. Remove accents first if that is intended.

Is my text uploaded?

No. The check runs in your browser; nothing is sent to a server or stored.
