Canonical Tag Generator builds one escaped <link rel="canonical"> tag from an absolute URL, stripping fragments and optionally query strings, with clear notes on when to keep parameters. It exists because the canonical question is usually asked in a hurry, when two addresses serve the same page and somebody has to decide which one search engines should treat as the original. The page takes the address you paste, rejects anything that is not absolute http or https rather than guessing a domain, and shows the finished tag with its attributes escaped so it can be dropped into a page head without breaking the markup. Fragments are always removed, because a hash never identifies a separate document; keeping the query string is a decision you make explicitly, since tracking parameters and pagination both live there and either answer can be right. Nothing is published, crawled or submitted: the output is a line of text you paste yourself, and the page repeats that a canonical is a hint rather than an instruction, because how it is honoured depends on the implementation reading it.

Frequently asked questions about Canonical Tag Generator

Will this tag force search engines to use my URL?

No. Canonicals are strong hints; engines decide the final canonical.

Why are fragments removed?

Fragments are client-side only and never needed in a canonical.

Should I keep query parameters?

Only if they define distinct content you want indexed; otherwise strip them — the explanation on the page helps decide and implementation is site-specific.

Is anything crawled?

Nothing is fetched or uploaded; the tag is built only from what you type.
