Add at least 2 locale/URL pairs.

Hreflang Tag Generator builds <link rel="alternate" hreflang> tags for 2–100 locale/URL pairs plus an optional x-default line, validating locales and absolute URLs and warning about reciprocal links. Multilingual markup fails quietly when it fails at all, so the page is built around the two mistakes that cause most of it: a locale code that no crawler recognises, and a set of tags that points one way only. Each row takes a language or language-region tag and the absolute address of that version, and the output lists every pair as an escaped link element ready for a page head. Locale validation is deliberately conservative and BCP47-like, so an unusual but legitimate code can still need a human look rather than being waved through. The reciprocal reminder exists because hreflang only works as a connected set: if the German page does not point back at the English one, the pair is ignored. Nothing is fetched or verified against a live site, and no page is contacted; the tags are text you paste, and the checking you do afterwards is your own. Locale strings are validated against a conservative BCP47-like grammar, and reciprocal links between language versions are flagged for you to add rather than inserted automatically.

How to use Hreflang Tag Generator

  1. Add locale/URL pairs (and x-default if needed).
  2. Fix any duplicate or invalid entries.
  3. Copy or download the tags.

What you get

  • A set of `<link rel="alternate" hreflang="…">` tags, one per language or region you list.
  • An optional x-default line for the fallback page.
  • A reciprocal-link reminder for each entry, because the tags only work as a connected set.

When to use Hreflang Tag Generator

  • Draft hreflang tags for a site with English and German variants.
  • Generate x-default fallback for international landing pages.
  • Audit an existing international setup by regenerating its tags and comparing them line by line.

Frequently asked questions about Hreflang Tag Generator

Will the generator verify my URLs exist?

No. Tags are built from what you type; no requests are made — verify URLs exist before deploying.

Why check for duplicate locales?

Each locale should map to one URL; duplicates would confuse crawlers, so they are flagged.

Do I need reciprocal links?

Recommended: each page's hreflang set should be mirrored on its alternates — the tool reminds you but cannot enforce it.

Is anything crawled?

Nothing is fetched; everything runs locally from your inputs.
