VAT Calculator adds value-added tax to a net figure or removes it from a gross one, and shows the tax component separately so the number that matters to an invoice is never hidden inside a total. The two directions are the whole point: a price quoted to a business is usually net, a price on a receipt is usually gross, and converting between them by hand is where a decimal place goes missing. You supply the amount and the rate, and the page returns the net, the tax and the gross together, with the arithmetic visible. Rates outside the accepted range are refused rather than clamped, because a mistyped rate produces a plausible wrong invoice. It applies the rate you enter and nothing else: no country's rules, no reduced-rate categories, no rounding conventions imposed by a tax authority. That makes it a calculator for the arithmetic of a rate, not a compliance tool, and the page says so. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and the figures stay in your browser.

How to use VAT Calculator

  1. Enter the amount and the VAT rate to apply.
  2. Choose add-VAT or extract-VAT mode.
  3. Read net, VAT, and gross, or copy the summary.

What you get

  • Net, VAT and gross amounts to the cent, in add-VAT or extract-VAT mode.
  • The formula and rounding order shown so the split can be reproduced by hand.
  • A copyable summary of the three values for an invoice or working paper.

When to use VAT Calculator

  • Quote a net service price plus a client-specified VAT rate.
  • Recover the net value hidden inside a VAT-inclusive receipt line.
  • Reconcile a supplier invoice on which only the tax-inclusive total is printed.

Frequently asked questions about VAT Calculator

How is extracted VAT calculated?

Net equals gross divided by one plus rate over one hundred; VAT equals gross minus net. Both round half-up to cents.

Does it know any country's VAT rate?

No. Every rate is typed in by you: the tool stores no country data and makes no jurisdiction claim whatsoever.

Why do net plus VAT exactly equal gross?

Each money step rounds half-up to cents in a fixed order, so the invariant holds to the cent in both modes by construction.

Is this tax advice?

No. It is deterministic arithmetic on numbers you supply. Real VAT treatment depends on rules this tool does not know.
