Text Comparison Tool aligns two versions line by line and marks what was added, what was removed and what stayed the same. The alignment uses a longest-common-subsequence pass, so a line inserted in the middle does not make every following line look changed - which is exactly what a naive side-by-side check gets wrong. The output uses the familiar diff markers: two spaces for unchanged, a minus for a line only in the first text, and a plus for a line only in the second. Case can be ignored, but whitespace is not normalised, so an indentation change is a real difference. The page is explicit that the comparison is line-level: changing one word removes the whole original line and adds the whole revised one. Each side is capped at three thousand lines to keep the calculation responsive. It is the tool for reviewing an edit, checking a config change, and confirming that two exports differ only where you expect. An unchanged line is shown with two leading spaces, so a diff can be read without colour and copied into a plain-text ticket. Because the alignment is line-based, moving a block is reported as a removal and an addition rather than as a move, which is the usual trade-off of a simple diff.

How to use Text Comparison Tool

  1. Paste the first text and the second text.
  2. Optionally ignore case.
  3. Copy the diff or clear to start over.

What you get

  • A copyable diff preserving the original line text.

When to use Text Comparison Tool

  • Review what changed between two drafts of a document.
  • Check a configuration file before and after an edit.
  • Confirm that two exports differ only in the expected lines.
