Add Commas to Numbers inserts thousands separators into long numbers inside ordinary text, which is the small formatting pass that makes a report readable: 1234567 becomes 1,234,567 without retyping the figure. The separator is yours to choose - comma, period, space or apostrophe - because the same digits are grouped differently in different locales, and a fixed choice would be wrong somewhere. The page groups only the integer part and keeps any decimal digits after the point untouched, so a price stays a price. It is deliberately conservative about what counts as a number. A digit run touching a letter, an existing comma or a decimal point is left alone, which protects identifiers such as ABC12345 and avoids doubling separators on text that is already formatted. A minimum digit count, defaulting to four, stops small figures from being decorated. Two consequences are stated rather than hidden: a four-digit year is grouped like any other number, and a period separator produces the same character as a decimal point. It is the tool for making pasted figures readable and for preparing numbers for a human review.

How to use Add Commas to Numbers

  1. Paste text containing numbers.
  2. Choose the separator and the minimum digit count.
  3. Copy the formatted text or clear to start over.

What you get

  • The text with separators inserted into the integer part of qualifying numbers.
  • The number of values that were actually regrouped.
  • Identifiers and already-formatted values left exactly as they were.

When to use Add Commas to Numbers

  • Make long figures in a pasted report readable without retyping them.
  • Group totals with a period for a locale that uses that separator.
  • Format a column of order values before sending it for review.

Frequently asked questions about Add Commas to Numbers

Why was 2026 changed to 2,026?

The tool cannot tell a year from any other four-digit number, so it groups everything at or above the minimum digit count. Raise the minimum to five if years should be left alone.

Does it format decimals?

The integer part is grouped and the digits after the decimal point are left as they were. The decimal point itself is preserved.

Why was my order code ABC12345 untouched?

A digit run touching a letter is treated as an identifier, not a number, and is deliberately skipped.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Formatting runs in your browser; nothing is sent to a server or stored.
