Add Column to Text inserts one constant value into every row of delimited text, either before the first cell or after the last. It is the small batch edit that turns an export into an import: add a source label, a status, a batch identifier or a fixed date without opening a spreadsheet and dragging a formula down. The delimiter is yours to choose, the first row can be treated as a header and left untouched, and the result reports how many rows received the new column. Splitting is literal - a delimiter inside quotes still separates cells - so the page does not pretend to be a full CSV parser. It also does not vary the value per row; every row gets exactly what you typed. It is the tool for tagging a pasted export, adding a constant field before a bulk import, and preparing a fixture with a shared column. The operation is row-wise and deterministic: the same input and value always produce the same output, and a row that is empty stays empty rather than gaining a stray delimiter. Adding the value at the end keeps the original column order intact, which matters to an importer that maps by position rather than by name. A row that already ends with the delimiter gains an empty final cell before the new value, which is visible in the output rather than silently corrected; fix the source if that is not intended. The value is inserted verbatim, with no escaping. The row count excludes empty lines, which are left as they are. The new cell is a plain string, so a value containing the delimiter will look like two cells to the importer; the page does not quote it.

Frequently asked questions about Add Column to Text

Can the value differ per row?

No. It is one constant value; for per-row mapping, prepare the column elsewhere and merge it.

Does it handle quoted CSV values?

No. Splitting is literal, so a delimiter inside quotes still splits the row.

Is the header modified?

Not when the header option is enabled; the first row is copied unchanged.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Editing runs in your browser; nothing is sent to a server or stored.
