WebP Converter re-encodes PNG, JPEG and WebP pictures into efficient WebP files at a quality you choose, keeping the alpha channel intact. It is aimed at site owners chasing faster page loads, marketers standardising a folder of mixed uploads, and anyone preparing images for a host that prefers a modern format. Because WebP is lossy at qualities below one hundred, lowering the slider shrinks the file while softening fine detail, much as JPEG does; transparency, however, survives where JPEG output would lose it. A browser unable to encode WebP reports that limitation instead of writing a broken file. Decoding and encoding both happen in the tab, so photographs are never transmitted and are released when you clear the tool. Compare the resulting file size with the original before replacing anything, because a poorly chosen quality can produce a larger file than the source. Screenshots with flat colour often shrink dramatically, while photographs that are already compressed change far less.

How to use WebP Converter

  1. Drop an image and set the WebP quality.
  2. Wait for the conversion.
  3. Download the WebP file or clear to start over.

What you get

  • A WebP file re-encoded at the quality you select.
  • The alpha channel preserved, so transparent areas stay transparent.
  • A download named after the source image with its new extension.

When to use WebP Converter

  • Shrink site images for faster page loads.
  • Standardize mixed uploads into one modern format.
  • Replace heavy PNG screenshots with lighter WebP copies.

Frequently asked questions about WebP Converter

Does WebP Converter upload my images?

No. Decoding and encoding run locally in your browser; nothing is sent, stored, or logged.

Is WebP lossy or lossless?

This tool uses lossy WebP at your chosen quality. Lower values shrink files but soften detail, like JPEG.

Does transparency survive?

Yes. Unlike JPEG, WebP keeps the alpha channel, so transparent PNG areas stay transparent.

What if my browser cannot encode WebP?

The tool reports an unsupported-browser error instead of producing a broken file.
