JPG to PNG converts a JPEG into a lossless PNG without pretending the conversion recovers anything. The decoded pixels are copied exactly, compression artifacts included, so the PNG is a stable copy of what the JPEG already looks like rather than a cleaned-up version. That stability is the point: repeated JPEG editing stacks a new generation of loss on every save, and freezing the current state in PNG stops the count. Two consequences are stated on the page rather than left to surprise. Transparency cannot appear, because a JPEG source never had an alpha channel. And the PNG is usually larger, because lossless storage does not discard the way JPEG compression does. EXIF orientation is applied before the canvas is drawn, so a phone photo keeps its upright dimensions. Output is always PNG at the source dimensions, with the filename and size reported and a preview shown. Files over ten megabytes are refused, and dimensions beyond the safety cap are rejected before decoding. The conversion happens on your device; nothing is uploaded. Because the decoded pixels are copied rather than reinterpreted, converting twice produces the same PNG, and no chroma subsampling is undone or introduced.

How to use JPG to PNG

  1. Drop a JPEG file.
  2. Wait for the lossless conversion.
  3. Download the PNG or clear to start over.

What you get

  • A lossless PNG whose pixels match the decoded JPEG exactly, at the source dimensions.
  • A confirmation of the output dimensions and filename, plus the statement that quality is identical to the source.
  • A note that the PNG is usually larger, because lossless storage does not discard the way JPEG compression does.

When to use JPG to PNG

  • Convert a photo for editing software that prefers PNG input.
  • Freeze a JPEG at its current quality before further edits.
  • Freeze a screenshot-heavy JPEG before annotating it, so later saves do not stack another generation of compression.

Frequently asked questions about JPG to PNG

Does JPG to PNG upload my photos?

No. Decoding and encoding run locally in your browser; nothing is sent, stored, or logged.

Will the PNG look better than my JPEG?

No. Conversion is lossless relative to the decoded pixels, so existing JPEG artifacts remain visible.

Why is the PNG bigger than the JPEG?

PNG compresses without loss, which needs more bytes than JPEG lossy compression for photographic content.

Can conversion restore transparency?

No. JPEG has no alpha channel, so there is nothing to restore. The PNG is fully opaque.
